L-am detestat la inceput. Am mers o jumatate de ora, o ora, o vesnicie... deja mult prea mult pentru copilul provincial din mine. Primul meu oras mi se paruse mare, dar l-am cucerit putin cate putin, cartierul il cunosteam ca pe propriele-mi buzunare, a urmat centrul, gara, bulevardul, totul la pas marunt, in liniste…
In ziua aceea am crezut ca am ajuns la capatul lui. Depasisem casele, ajunsesem la blocuri inalte, urate, cu buticuri la parter. Apoi am descoperit ca marginea aceasta de Bucuresti, nu era nici macar marginea de centru, depasisem bulevardul Dacia si ajunsesem pe la Mosi. Dar lucrul asta l-am realizat dupa ani buni. Apoi, uimita de cladirea aceea imensa din centru, am zis sa o inconjur, sa o vad in totalitatea ei, am pornit cu rabdare. Am mers si iar am mers, credeam ca mersul pe jos nu cunoaste limite, apoi am invatat ca fara transport in comun chiar ca nu se poate. Cei mai norocosi au si o masina, dar nu era de mine, intotdeauna am fost un pieton prin excelenta. Apoi m-am mutat din camin intr-o periferie. Am luat autobuzul. O statie doua, trei... ajungem intr-o intersectie. “Gata, mi-am zis, e capatul Bucurestiului”, ei bine nu...doar Piata Iancului. Calatoria a mai durat o statie, doua, trei... intr-un autobuz umplut la refuz. Am crezut ca ajung la capatul puterilor, l-am depasit cu inca vreo doua, trei statii si am ajuns. Intr-adevar atunci cand nu stii unde mergi, drumul este mai lung. Ziua a trecut, la fel si saptamana, luna, anul... drumul a inceput sa se scurteze, caci obisnuinta face minuni. Din Balta Alba pana la Romana... o ora pe vremuri... acum nu mai stiu... o ora de contemplat chipuri in jurul meu, o ora de rasuflari tacute, zgomotoase, de vorbe grele sau de cate-o carte citita in fuga. De atunci niciun oras nu mi s-a mai parut fara limita, pentru mine exista numai orase mici. Am invatat sa astept intr-un oras al asteptarilor.
